New mobile platform launched: Windows Phone 7
Earlier this week, Microsoft unveiled its latest smartphone platform: Windows Phone 7. With a multitude of hardware manufacturers offering handsets with Windows Phone 7, it is expected that the mobile technology will be a popular alternative to Apple's iPhone range and Google's Android offerings.
The first handsets in Australia will launch later this year with each carrier.
A previously described by Webdragon, the question of whether to build apps specifically for Windows Phone 7 will come down to business requirements. It is worth noting that so far, interfaces for Windows Phone 7 applications have been quite different from those of iPhone and Android (which tend to be quite similar).
Websites which are designed for mobile devices will work just as well on Windows Phone 7 as they do on other platforms, making mobile web a wise investment.
