Google recently updated its ranking systems to push low-quality websites further down in results, making now a good time to review your search engine optimisation strategy.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the process of making your website rank highly in search engine results. For most companies, this means Google's search results, however the actual ranking methods used by Google remain secret and subject to change at any time. Often companies devote a significant proportion of their web marketing campaigns to SEO, meaning that any changes on Google's part can lead to big wins or losses for those companies' websites.

Following complaints about low-quality content ranking highly in its search engine results, Google recently made a significant change to its algorithm to force so-called "content farms" down in results. On the surface it sounds like a good idea, but identifying content farms is not exactly fool-proof, with plenty of large sites such as eHow losing traction instantly.
